Conservation Federation 2009 Awardees
Several SNR alumni received awards from the Conservation Federation of Missouri at their annual conference earlier this spring. Ten individuals and organizations were recognized with the 2009 CFM achievement awards, with one-half the group hailing from the School of Natural Resources at the University of Missouri.
The number of awardees representing the School of Natural Resources is a point of pride for the School. This is “just more evidence that what we do in education has long-lasting impacts on conservation,” said Mark Ryan, long-time faculty member and director of the School of Natural Resources.
Missouri Department of Conservation’s State Forester, Lisa Allen, received Conservationist of the Year honors. She earned bachelor of science and master of science degrees in forestry from SNR.
Bill Cooper, an outdoor writer and photographer, was recognized as the Outstanding Conservation Communicator. Cooper currently works with Outdoor Guide magazine, Missouri Game and Fish magazine and the Springfield News-Leader newspaper, among others. He earned a master of science degree in parks, recreation and tourism from the School.
Professional Conservationist of the Year honors went to Greg Iffrig, who serves with the L-A-D foundation in St. Louis and Salem, Mo. During his time with the School of Natural Resources, he earned a master of science degree in fisheries and wildlife science.
Kyle Larimore, a private land conservationist with the Missouri Department of Conservation, was recognized as the 2009 CFM Conservation Educator of the year. He received a bachelor of science degree in fisheries and wildlife science from the School.
The Forest Conservationist of the year recognition went to Jeremy Wilson of Quality Forest Management, a forestry and wildlife consulting firm. Wilson received a bachelor of science degree from SNR in fisheries and wildlife science.
“Congratulations to the awardees…and to all those teachers, advisors, and mentors who helped them along the way!” Ryan said. “If you know these folks, please congratulate them.”
