Dr. C. Randy Vessell Scholarship

Randy Vessell

As a graduate or friend of the parks, recreation and tourism program at the MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, you have likely been touched by the teaching excellence, sincere caring and mentoring, and generosity of Randy Vessell, Ph.D.

In celebration of his years of dedication to students, the Dr. C. Randy Vessell Scholarship in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism has been established at the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR). With your support, Randy Vessell's enduring commitment to education can be realized in perpetuity at MU, his alma mater.

It is our turn to give to current and future students in Dr. Vessell's honor. The Vessell Scholarship will enable the College to recruit and retain the brightest and best scholars who are the future of the parks, recreation and tourism field. The endowment will provide financial assistance to junior, senior or graduate level students who demonstrate ambition and passion for the field of parks, recreation and tourism. With your support, the first scholarship could be awarded as early as 2008.

Dave and Barbara Curtis Alumni across the nation are joining together to fund the scholarship, including Dave Curtis BS '67 PR&TR, who began a bike trek across the United States on July 5, 2007. Starting in Anacortes, Washington and finishing in Freeport, Maine for a journey of 4,099 miles between July 5 and Sept. 30, Dave and his wife Barbara raised funds for the Vessell Endowment along the way.

We've already received gifts and pledges toward this endowment totaling $9,000. Please help us toward our goal of $25,000 by giving online at donatetomu.missouri.edu. At the Gift Information Fund prompt, select 'other,' then type the Randy Vessell Scholarship Fund in the box provided.

If you have any questions regarding this scholarship, call Dr. David Vaught at 573-882-9517.

Your contribution to this endowment will help sustain the legacy of leadership and mentorship Dr. Vessell has created in parks, recreation and tourism education.
