Scott P. Sowa

Scott P. Sowa, Ph.D.

Adjunct Assistant Professor
Fisheries and Wildlife

Education

  • Ph.D., 2005, University of Missouri

Research

  • Stream ecology, freshwater biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem risk/threat assessment, applications of GIS for freshwater research and management.

Research Summary

  • Sowa's research focuses on utilizing geographic information system (GIS) technologies as a tool for improving research, understanding, and management of freshwater ecosystems, particularly streams. His work emphasizes multiscale investigations that attempt to separate natural from human-induced factors responsible for affecting spatial patterns in freshwater ecosystem structure and function. Sowa's work stresses the importance of linking research with management and he strives to develop information and geospatial tools that have direct application to some of the most critical issues facing resource managers today.
